After about a 30 minute drive up a wide mountain road with superb views of Chiang Mai city we reach the Temple of Wat Phrathet Doi Suthep.

The temple was built in 1376 and is located 15 kms from the city and 3,051 feet above sea level. Featuring a marvellous golden pagoda containing holy relics of Lord Buddha. This temple and its golden Chedi attract Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world throughout the year. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Chiang Mai City and Ping river valley from the summit of Doi Suthep. Wat Phrathet Doi Suthep is approached on foot by climbing a steep 306 stairway flanked by tremendous mythical Nagas, which symbolize humanities progress from earth into nirvana. For those who may find it difficult to climb the steps there is also a funicular railway to the Temple.

After leaving the temple, we change to a pick-up truck to drive a further 12 kms up the mountain to visit the White Hmong hill tribe village.

This village will give you a true picture of the lives of these hill tribe villagers. Nestling in the hills behind Doi Suthep the village covers a large area where reaching to the edge of the hillside the village school has commanding views over Chiang Mai.

After walking around to see the different parts of the village we drive back to Chiang Mai calling in for a coffee at a local coffee research plantation on our way down the mountain.
